In 2009 the MG Car Club of Geelong Inc. established a new category of membership –
Youth Competition member. This category of membership is open to all juniors aged 12 to 23 years. (See the FORMS section of the website to obtain an application form).
The Club will be conducting a series of activities over the forthcoming year to introduce these members to not only competition in the form of motorkhanas, but also vehicle maintenance, responsible driving and other training activities that will make them better and SAFER drivers. It is important to point out that the Club will not be responsible to teach the juniors to drive, but more to make them better drivers. To compete in club events, each junior must obtain the appropriate CAMS licence. Two types of licences are available from CAMS:-
A:
Level 2 Non Speed (L2NS). A L2NS licence entitles the competitor to compete in events such as observed section trials, touring assemblies, non-timed road events, motorkhanas, khanacross and drifting events, up to International level.
B:
Level 2 Speed (L2S). A L2S licence entitles the holder to compete in L2NS events plus regularity trials up to National Championship level, single and multi-car speed events (not racing) up to International level, and touring road events that do not run over closed road sections. L2S licences are the most popular CAMS licence to hold. To apply for these licenses go to
www.cams.com.au. To assist juniors whose parents don’t have a car that they can use in club events, the Club (via a grant from CAMS), has purchased a 1976 Ford Escort for them to use. This car is now being re-furbished by members of the club and will be available for use very soon.
